Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in IT

How you will study

The IT course is split into 2 years, the first year you will study the two compulsory examined units of the Introductory to IT and Global information.  Success in both of these exams with earn you an AS level which is worth 24 UCAS points.  The second year is dominated by coursework which covers 3 units.  The first unit, Internet of Everything and making a product proposal which is taken to its conclusion and presented to the client. The second and third units Application Design and Product Development are completed at the same time and a website or app is created and is created from the inception of the idea all the way through to the creation and implementation of the idea for the client.   

Component breakdown

Unit 1: Fundamentals in IT – Mandatory External Assessed Exam 

Understanding the different types of computers how they link together communicate and applying that knowledge to a given scenario. 

Unit 2: Global Information – Mandatory Externally Assessed Exam 

Looking at the different types and sources of data and how this becomes information and the uses of this in each scenario. 

Unit 17: The internet of Everything – Module Internally Assessed Coursework 

Further. 

Unit 6: Application Design – Module Internally Assessed Coursework 

Reviewing the different types of software application models and then applying one to a given client brief.  This is then followed through to the product creation stage, undertaking all the steps to fulfil the client brief. 

Unit 9: Product Development – Module Internally Assessed Coursework 

Based on the design that has been created from unit 6 the product is then created and presented to the client at different stages.  Based on the feedback given by the client, the product is refined and given to the client at the final sign off meeting.
