Applied Human Biology BTEC Summary

This course is perfectly suited to anyone who wishes to study Biology and its applications in the real world. This course gives an excellent grounding in microbiology and practical microbiology laboratory skills. This course will prepare learners for higher level study or a career in the applied science sector, particularly nursing and health science careers. Studying Applied Biology will enable learners to develop a knowledge and understanding of basic scientific principles, as well as those scientific practical skills recognised by higher education institutions and employers. The qualification also offers opportunities to develop transferable skills such as problem solving, research and communication.

How you will study

The course in assessed with a mixture of portfolio work, practical assessment and external examinations spread across the two years of study. You must get a pass in each unit. You will be spending time in the laboratory carrying out practicals and investigations, as well as the classroom learning the theoretical side of human biology and health. This course is continually assessed spreading the workload throughout the two years.

The assessments are split into 42% Portfolio work and 58% examined externally.

Practical Microbiology and Infectious disease – Portfolio work, 25% of total grade

Human Biology and Health issues – Examined, 33% of total of grade
